Standerdized testing is a key component in deciding if a child is ready for the next level of education. These tests asses what a child has learned over the last year. It's important for these test to be given, because if a student is not prepared to move up it easy to tell. Also the standerdized testing shows if the teachers are teaching the material at a proficent rate, and how the school compares to others.
These tests are important to prepare students for the ACT and the SAT. Standerdized testing is one of the keys to a succesful future. No matter how boring or long they are, these test are essential.

Advertisment
In the advertisment for Jimmy Dean Hearty Sausage Crumbles, whoever designed it used Pathos, Logos, and Ethos very well. He clearly uses these to show how quick and simple the sausage crumbles are. They show that no matter how fast your life is, you can always have a hearty, enjoyable breakfast.
A prime example of Ethos in the ad is that Jimmy Dean is a large, well known company. They use their name to lure people in. They say that adding sausage crumbles will make a plain, boring egg burrito into a delicious breakfast. They also have a slogan, "Shine On" telling you that if you eat Jimmy Dean will make you have a better day.
The use of Pathos is very evident in the advertisment. They say that is only takes 1.5 seconds to turn your plain egg burrito, into a delicious one. It shows that even busy, on the go people can enjoy a tastey, filling breakfast. You will be motivated to have a good day, and be productive. They use the sun rising over the hill to draw in peoples attention. It's used to really drive the point that having a good breakfast, will make you have a good day.
The main reason for this advertisment is to make people buy packets of small crumbles of sausage. People are stupid. It probably worked.

Lie to me.
Empathy. Test yourself. When I think of empathy I think of the care and feelings we have towards others. Not being able to tell how others feel through facial expressions. I decided to do my test on some of the quizzes Pink put in the book.
The first quiz I took was on spotting a fake smile. I thought this was going to be extremely difficult, but it ended up being pretty simple. I scored a 17 out of a possible 20. I began to think about how many smiles you see in a day and how you never know if they are fake or not. When I stared at a persons face I could easily tell if their smile was real or not, but when you just see it for a second it is impossible to tell. When you have time you can see how their face moves you can read it, but when you are actually with a person you don't want to just stare at them. So I guess we just have to live not knowing if we really make someone smile or if it is all just a show.

The second quiz I took is on using eyes to tell persons facial expression. This quiz was also very simple for me as well. I scored a 33 out of a possible 36. You can tell a lot about a person just by their eyes.
George Herbert once said, "The eyes have one language everywhere."
This statement is so true. You can tell anything you want to know about a person by their eyes. You can see happiness, pain, confusion, the list just goes on.

Your score: 33
A typical score is in the range 22-30. If you scored over 30,
you are very accurate at decoding a person's facial expressions
around their eyes. A score under 22 indicates you find this quite difficult.
The correct answers for the ones you missed are:
16: thoughtful
25: interested
33: concerned
These quizzes on empathy really show how much you know about human nature. They show you that peoples emotions are much easier to spot than you think. These quizzes help you become a better person because they make it easier to tell when something is wrong, so you can help.
P.S. based on my scores you can call me Dr. Cal Lightman(: (the guy off of Lie to Me.)
